New Cape, New Year

I've resolved to have a year that even a super hero might brag about.

Trading in my Lululemon for a cape that channels power in superlatives and ups all my games, including the face I’m counting on in times of need.

I played a lot of sports growing up – especially tennis – and my father was both coach and mentor. He often told me to envision my game. This meant to look from the outside in, to imagine myself playing and to mimic the perfect strokes of my favorite players as I stepped in, made contact and followed through. Back in the day, my heroes of the game were Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova and (especially) Jimmy Connors. Now I’m a tennis mom to my son Dylan and I’ve paid forward a lot of my father’s instruction. At 10 years old, Dylan’s worked hard at his game and is a great player who enjoys and appreciates the sport. A very singular discipline, tennis requires both physical and mental toughness. I often tell him to ‘dig deep’ to pull out the win. Defy your odds and whatever the outcome – win or lose – you’ve tried your best. Game on.

I recently lost my hometown NFL team, the St. Louis Rams. It’s been one of those things that I knew was most likely coming but didn't want to believe that it would actually come and then when it did come I acted like I couldn’t believe that it came. Like many, I did the rant and rave thing and commiserated with family and friends far and near.  And that’s what fans do. That’s what fans do for heroes of the game who have committed, sacrificed, and worked hard. Caped and defying the odds in their super ways, they show up to win and oyster their world. Forever faithful, I wish the Rams the best and I’m thankful for their 21 seasons of glory, including two well-earned visits to the big dance.

I’m Blogging this as Super Bowl Sunday is kicked off with 117 million viewers watching over-priced and over-rated ads. Let the testosterone and chili runneth over. Hut, hut, hike.

What's in it FOR YOU? For better, for worse…

·      It’s all about Wonder Woman and her bad-ass bracelets – she is the best commercial.
·      Be forever faithful to your home team.
·      Play a sport, be a sport, wear your best cape (and bring your shovel for deep digging)
·      Bust out of your cave … there’s a Robin in a bat mobile
    awaiting you!
